How delays work at TPA

A ground stop holds flights bound for TPA at their origin airports. A ground delay program spaces arrivals out so the airport is not overloaded. Departure and arrival delay messages describe the average wait the FAA expects. None of these tell you whether your own flight is late, so always check your airline as well.

Local tips

  • Ticketing and baggage claim are split into Red and Blue sides, and your airline is assigned one of them. Check the airport's airline page before you arrive.
  • Several airlines (American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest and United) take part in Remote Bag Check; the airport lists participating airlines on its FAQ page.
  • International arrivals clear customs on the lower level of Airside F, then take the shuttle to the Main Terminal to collect bags on Level 1.
  • The Airside D work includes a shuttle guideway across George J. Bean Parkway, and the airport has announced overnight closures and detours near the Red side of the Main Terminal. Expect some detours.
  • The SkyConnect station for the Rental Car Center is entered between P.F. Chang's and Hard Rock Cafe if you walk from an airside without bags.
